Various services are obtainable for those who have difficulties integrating into Icelandic society or understanding its social structure. Services and counselling can be provided in the form of interpretation, translation, legal advice, social work and educational advice.

Kvennaráðgjöfin (Women's Counseling)

The Women's Counseling offers free legal and social work counseling. Their main goal is to offer counseling and support to women but they assist anyone seeking their service, regardless of their sex. Opening hours is on Tuesdays from 8pm to 10pm and on Thursdays from 2pm to 4pm. The service is free of charge and those in need can drop by or give them a call.

Lögfróður Legal Services- Free legal aid at the University of Reykjavik

Free legal aid every Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm from the 1st of September throughout April, excluding the exam period in December.

We accept walk-ins and are situated just inside the entrance of the main building of the University of Reykjavík on opening hours. You can also contact us by phone on 777-8409. Furthermore we provide legal aid via email every day of the week.

Lögfróður Legal Services ensure full confidentiality by requiring all our volunteers to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

The service is provided by 3rd, 4th and 5th year law students at the University of Reykjavík.

Lögmannavaktin (the lawyers watch)

Free legal advice for anybody in need is offered at Lögmannafélagið (the society of lawyers), on Tuesday afternoons. Inhabitants outside the capital area can be counselled by phone but inhabitants of Reykjavík have to make an appointment.

On their website one can find lawyers who provide service in English, Danish, French, Icelandic, Italian, Norwegian, Spanish, Swedish and German, as well as forms in Danish, English, French, Icelandic, Serbian/Croatian, Spanish, Polish, Thai and German.

Fjölmenningarsetur provides an extensive service for foreigners. Emphasis is placed on providing service regardless of one's residential status. Assistance is available by phone in the following languages: English (450-3090), Polish (470-4708), Serbian/Croatian (470-4709) and Thai (470-4702).
